Traveling Troubles
Anyone else dealing with resentment from staff nurses? I'm a travel RN and I swear it's like high school all over again. I am here to help, not steal your job.

The real cost of shift work
Worked my third holiday this year. Missed my daughter's recital yesterday. The money's not worth it anymore. How are you all managing the guilt and exhaustion that comes with shift work?

They allure you with the money but no one talks about the resentment from staff nurses or having to prove yourself at every new gig. I'm seriously thinking about going back to a permanent role. Cherishing small victories
Patient today stood up, took her first steps after surgery. She looked at me, tears in her eyes, thanked me for pushing her. Damn, it's moments like these that keep me in the game. What was your small win today?
A Moment of Triumph
For the first time in two weeks, my patient's pain score was below 5 today. It's the small wins that keep me going. What are your small wins?

Why do we put up with this?
Lately, I've been asking myself why we - as nurses - put up with so much crap from patients and doctors alike. We work our tails off, take care of everyone else, and get treated like we're expendable. Today, I had a patient scream at me because their dinner was late. Later, I had a doc treat me like his personal secretary. I'm just...I'm just tired, you know? Why do we continue doing this to ourselves?
Floated again
Look, I'm all for being a team player, but getting floated to a different unit every other shift is driving me insane. I didn't train in neuro to get thrown into geriatrics at the drop of a hat. I don't know those patients, their procedures, or their routines. It's unsafe for them and it's unfair to me. Surely there's a better way to manage staffing instead of trading us around like we're baseball cards?

Heard about the new guy's pay
So, I just found out that the new hire on my unit is getting paid way more than me. Mind you, this guy hasn't even been a nurse for two years yet. I've been in this game for over a decade, but he's pulling in more than me because...what? He's got a buddy in HR? It's insane. What's the point in busting our asses in this profession if loyalty and experience don't even matter anymore?

Poisoned Culture
Between the toxic team dynamics and management that doesn't care, I feel exhausted. Anyone else feel like the hospital culture is sucking the life out of them?
